The Black Fleet Crisis Books

At the time I first read the Black Fleet Crisis I honestly did not enjoy it much.  It wasn't very well connected to other books and it just didn't seem to fit.  Now, however, it fits perfectly.  More books came along that made this series relevant and really a joy to read.  So, if you get to this series and don't really understand what is going on, just remember what you have read and it will be worth it.
 
Luke searches for clues about his mother with only the Force to guide him and in the process learns how to use a different form of the Force called the Flow.  These new abilities become essential in helping Han and Lando solve a mystery and save their lives and also are used to save the New Republic in a space battle on the Fleet scale.
 

The Corellian Trilogy

Who would have thought that the system that produced Han Solo and Wedge Antilles would be full of proud, brash, and impulsive people?  Well it is and that only leads to trouble in this series as Han and Leia have to swoop in and save the day.  Now, the system is home to more than just one race, so their proximity leads to conflict over who the dominate species is.
 

The Dark Nest Trilogy

The advancement of a newly aggressive species of insects leads the Jedi and the Galactic Alliance to the unknown regions and the border of the Chiss Empire to find out why the insects are about to start a war with the Chiss.  It turns out that when exposed to the air the insects breate for too long, anyone begins to join their hive mind.  So what caused this change in the insect hive, the introduction of an old character thought dead....
 

The Han Solo Trilogy

The scoundrel Han Solo's storied had to start somewhere.  Follow him from his early roots and find out more about your favorite smuggler before he had the Millenium Falcon and helped bring the galaxy out from under the rule of the evil Galactic Empire.  Who would of thought our lovable Han Solo went to the Imperial Academy, what else do you not know...
 

The Jedi Academy Trilogy

Luke Skywalker was once the only Jedi left in the galaxy, well it is time for that to change.  After traveling in search of those with a talent for the force, it is time to return the Jedi Order to its former glory.  Returning to the moon the Rebels defeated the first Death Star from, Yavin 4, Luke Skywalker will being to train his new and powerful students in an effort to bring the light side of the force back to the galaxy.
 

The Legacy of the Force Series

A turbulent time has come to the young Galactic Alliance.  An old Sith has returned and the next Sith Lord is getting ready to take control of the Galactic Alliance and name himself Emperor.  Will anyone be able to stop him, or will they even know before it is too late.  The conspiracy runs deep and the new Sith lord is one of the most loyal and powerful of the Jedi Order.  Between the return of the Sith and a Civil War that will tear families apart, the Galactic Alliance doesn't look like it will last much longer.
 

New Jedi Order

This series broke the mold and brought all the random and diverging story line in the Star  Wars Galaxy back together.  With a new unified story line, something special happened.  We get introduced to a new enemy.  Old rivalries are put to rest and the Jedi Order comes back to the forefront to help lead the Republic.  We also see our most loved characters start to share the spotlight with thier children, who are now the same age their parents were when they destroyed the Empire years ago.
 

The Thrawn Trilogy

The series that started it all and the first you have to read.  This trilogy shows you that the Empire did not die when the Death Star was destroyed.  There are still those loyal to the Empire's calling and a lot of combat power to back it up.  New Jedi are introduced and a brilliant military mind that was the Emperor's Grand Admiral.  The Rebel Alliance has not cemented its future yet and will have a fight on their hands to do it.
 

The X-Wing Series

Quite possibly the most entertaining series of books, follow the pilots of Rogue Squadron, and later Wraith Squardron through their adventures and unmatched space battles as the best and most elite fighter squadrons in the Star Wars Universe.
 

Young Jedi Knights Series

These may be meant as books for young reader, but with the direction that the other books have gone, these are ESSENTIAL before you start reading the New Jedi Order and after.
 

This series of books is great to get young readers into the Star Wars Universe.  Not only will it capture their imagination and interest in reading, it will also help give them a foothold to progress to larger Star Wars books.  The will be introduced to the Children of Han and Leia, as well as the original Star Wars characters as they grow up in the Jedi Academy led by Luke Skywalker.
